By applying principles of ecology we attempt to build more robust and stable gastrointestinal ecosystems. For the last hundred years modern health policy has strip mined the gastrointestinal tract of biodiversity. For decades this strategy brought improvements in health and well-being. Unfortunately, the human body is not exempt from the laws of nature and the dramatic and significant reduction in life from our internal ecosystems has created massive fragility and self-limiting behavior. We have literally had our gastrointestinal tract turned into deserts.
“With so many ecosystems in turmoil, perhaps parasites’ absence—not their presence—is what should cause ecologists concern.”
