Days 11, 12 and 13

Fourth of July weekend. Most notable change has been gas and more gas. Nothing that is uncomfortable but definitely different. Runs have been good and spent some time in the water so no big changes in energy, but I have noticed a stronger impulse towards my mid-day siestas.  Rather than describing weight changes probably better to photo document. I know I will regret this picture but numbers on a scale do not mean a whole lot.

Woke up at 172lbs which is down five pounds from the start of this experiment. Inflammation is down, not dramatically, but definitely down and trending toward improvement.  Have ordered my uBiome kit and will send a sample for the two week time period.

Days 9 and 10

First loose and watery bowel movement in the evening of day 9. Followed by an evening of not feeling great. Woke up the next day and felt fine. Went for long run 14 miles in the heat which is a lot to ask of my gut with all the changes. Intestines held up really well all things considered. Got caught out in the heat when the marine layer burned off and I got really hot on second half of my run.

Finished in a good time for a Mt. Woodson double. Fought cramps last five miles and did throw up on drive home; but that was all heat/dehydration related. One interesting development is that I have noticed some weight loss and scale confirms I have lost 3-4 lbs. Will monitor as I have not noticed change in appetite and have not changed my diet or exercise level. I have always have a little gut which I associate with the residual inflammation and that is what I have noticed is going away. Interesting...

Day 2

Woke up to the slightest of stomach unease; not uncomfortable just enough to be noticeable as something different. Vaguely remember flipping a moist pillow last night - could be mild night sweats - or could just be that Summer has finally come to Southern California.

Spent a couple hours in the ocean yesterday so it is not uncommon for my inflammation to look good the next day, and it does look good today including my rosacea which usually looks worse after sunlight/ocean exposure. Hard to tell but enough going on that I am going to skip today's dose and just let whatever is happening continue. Will take another capsule tomorrow morning.

The Problem Defined

“The last word in ignorance is the man who says of an animal or plant, "What good is it?" If the land mechanism as a whole is good, then every part is good, whether we understand it or not. If the biota, in the course of aeons, has built something we like but do not understand, then who but a fool would discard seemingly useless parts? To keep every cog and wheel is the first precaution of intelligent tinkering.”
